On the Dragon Boat Festival
Translated by Xu Yuanchong
Since the olden days, the Dragon Boat Festival has celebrated Qu Yuan,
In the fifth lunar month, on the fifth day,
People eat zongzi, wrapped in leaves, which are sticky and glutinous.
And calamus and wormwood are hung on the doors to protect the home.
Dragon boats race on the river,
Their oars splashing and the drums beating in rhythm.
People watch the races, cheering and waving flags,
And children play with sachets filled with herbs and flowers.
